Darth Talon leather and armor.
We didn't want to go vacuform or resin cast for this project; it was 18-16 gauge aluminum and hand fabrication all the way!
We put a lot of thought and effort into the finish of the plates- often in the comic, they can look almost black, but glossy black armor can sometimes look plastic in real life. We wanted some black in there as a nod to the original source material from the comic, but with lots of areas "worn to a polish" so as to give the armor a dynamic look with lots of "texture" to it that would suggest the wearer has used the armor in many prior battles. As an added bonus, the "white" areas of the armor do a good job of picking up the light in photos, telling the viewer, "Yes, I'm made of metal!" BTW- in the comic, Talon's armor is made of "phrikite," a light-saber resistant alloy in the Star Wars universe.
We were in contact with artist/ co-creator of the character, Jan Duursema, during this process and had sent her a picture of one of the plates. She said that she loved the finish and that it was "...exactly what I picture when I draw the costume..." Hard to top that as a compliment! Thanks for the kudos, Jan! ;0)
